For my WordPress Credits contribution project, I chose the Polyglots Team. This team focuses on translating WordPress and its related projects into different languages so that more people can use the platform in their native language.
I selected Polyglots because translation is a practical way to contribute to the WordPress community while learning more about how an open-source project works. It also gives me the opportunity to work with real content that will be used by WordPress users.
For my contribution project, I will work on the WooCommerce translation project for Spanish (Costa Rica – es_CR). My contribution will consist of translating WooCommerce strings from English into Spanish and submitting them through the WordPress translation platform for review and approval.
I chose WooCommerce because it is a widely used WordPress plugin and it has many strings available for translation. This gives me the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution while gaining experience with the WordPress Polyglots workflow.
This project relates to my interests because it allows me to combine technology, communication, and language. I will also be able to improve my attention to detail and learn how translations are reviewed and managed within an open-source community.
During this project, I expect to learn how the WordPress translation platform works, how to correctly translate software strings, how the Polyglots team collaborates, and how contributions are reviewed and approved.
By the end of the project, I hope to complete a significant number of approved WooCommerce translations and better understand how individual contributors can support the development of WordPress and its global community.
